Newport Parks and Recreation Director Jim Protiva says the Newport Municipal Pool will start being re-filled in the middle of next week with a tentative official re-opening date of April 8th. It’ll be one week shy of two months of being closed due to the failure of the pool’s bottom drain system which caused flooding in the lower basement area which included pumps and electrical panels. No chlorinated water reached any local creeks. Damage to the panels and pumps appeared to be minor.
Protiva said he and his staff are very grateful for the patience shown by their customers and that everyone’s pool passes are automatically extended by the number of days the pool was down for repairs.
Resumption of swim lessons is expected to launch the re-opening of the pool April 8th. For up to the minute information, call Jim Protiva at 541-265-4855.
