The Oregon Coast Chamber Music Society will present a benefit concert and silent auction on Saturday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. at an ocean view home in Depoe Bay. Narrator Edmund Stone from All Classical Radio and classical pianist Cary Lewis will present Enoch Arden, a melodrama with poem by A. L. Tennyson and music by Richard Strauss.
Salishan Wine and Romance will donate wine pouring service and Cindy Scheel of Exuberance Catering in Portland will donate preparation of hors d’oeuvres to match the mood and theme of the program. Sought-after auction items include fine wines, dining and art from the coastal area, Dundee, and Portland.
Born and raised in England, Edmund Stone toured in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet before moving to Scotland where he reviewed films for BBC radio and various publications. In 1980 he moved to Los Angeles where he covered the Academy Awards and narrated more than 1,000 educational audio cassettes. Stone moved to Portland and joined All Classical FM in 2001 where he hosts the popular music program The Score. He has also narrated a number of orchestras and ensembles in and beyond the Portland area including Peter and the Wolf at the Siletz Bay Music Festival last summer.
Cary Lewis is in constant demand as a collaborative pianist for soloists and chamber music groups. As a member of the Lanier Trio with concertmaster violinist William Preucil and cellist Dorothy Lewis, he received acclaim throughout Europe and the United States. In 1993 Time magazine hailed the trio’s recording of the complete Dvorak Trios as one of the ten best music recordings of any kind. Lewis was a Fulbright scholar for two years in Vienna; he has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Library of Congress, the White House and Wigmore Hall in London. He has made 36 recordings on 11 labels including Turnabout, Vanguard, and Orion and has performed in numerous music festivals in the U. S., Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia.
Chef Cindy Scheel is the owner of Exuberance Catering which she describes as “the culmination of nearly 20 years of special events planning.” In addition to her culinary arts, Ms. Scheel has served as the Director of Development at the Portland Symphonic Choir and now serves as executive director of PAW (Portland Animal Welfare).
