Proposed Center for Health Education Construction to start within 3 to 5 years.

Proposed Center for Health Education
Construction to start within 3 to 5 years.

A New Center for Health Education at PCH
(Includes corrected copy from original)

Just as community centers strengthen neighborhoods by providing gathering places, the Center for Health Education at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital will strengthen Lincoln County by providing a hub for health-related information, classes and support groups.

Imagine that you or someone you love is diagnosed with a serious illness. Or perhaps you are perfectly healthy and simply looking for information to help you stay that way as you grow older. What do you do? Research, of course. You want to find advice, treatment options, support services and people who understand your situation. In addition to talking to your health care provider, you may go online, to the library, or you might ask someone who has experienced what you’re going through.

The Center for Health Education will give the community a safe, central place to do all of this.

A focus on wellness

Located on the hospital campus, the Center for Health Education will allow us to:

* Offer centralized meeting rooms for the county’s many support groups
* Expand our ability to offer community wellness programs
* Attract large educational conferences
* Offer health-related community organizations meeting space with state-of-the-art technology
* Create skills and simulation labs for health care professionals
* Free up space inside the hospital for clinical use
* Establish a health resource library

Just like a community center, the Center for Health Education will be about strengthening our neighborhood—with a focus on wellness.

Plans continue to take shape for the future center. The two-story, 12,000-square-foot “green” building will house a community health resource center; a hands-on teaching kitchen that will be used to teach healthy eating and cooking practices; a skills lab and simulation lab with an attached classroom for hands-on employee training; and several meeting rooms for health-related classes, support groups and conferences. Lincoln City architect Cynthia Quade is designing the center. The Pacific Communities Health District Foundation, which is raising all funds for the project, plans a groundbreaking in the next year.

The total cost for the project is estimated at $2.5 million. To date, the foundation has raised $1.9 Million toward the project.
