The Lincoln City City Council this week approved moving ahead with plans and designs to underground 1,400 feet of power, phone and cable tv lines that currently obscure ocean views for passing vehicles driving through the D River Wayside area. City officials lament that one of the most attractive windows to the sea that visitors can enjoy is “junked up” with power poles and strings of ugly utility lines.
The undergrounding project includes not only burying the utility lines but also eliminating the overhead wires that currently hold the D River/Highway 101 signal lights. The signal lights will be affixed to masts and arm extensions which take up less visual space.
The project is expected to get underway in earnest in the near future. The project, which runs from SW Ebb to NW 2nd, will run over a million dollars – funds coming from Urban Renewal.. They anticipate the project will be complete by the fall of 2014, with a decent chance that it could be a little sooner than that.
