NEWPORT POOL: Closed for repairs for the next month. Then fully back open with a new drain system by late March.
From Newport Parks and Recreation:
After a more thorough examination of what’s broken in the nearly 50 year old Newport Municipal Pool, engineers have come to the conclusion that the pool needs to be shut down for the next month and have it’s underground drain pipes replaced. They’re corroded and leaking.
The work plan is to replace the drain pipes, repair the bottom of the pool, repaint it, replace the four underwater lights and install a special backflow device to prevent future accidental draining.
All passes held by the public will be extended for the duration of the closure.
In September, the pool will NOT be routinely shut down again for painting and maintenance.
Pools in Lincoln City and Toledo are offering special use packages for Newport Pass holders during the month of March.
