Cold hands, smiling faces and a big pair of scissors at South Beach Marina
Port of Newport Port Commission President JoAnn Barton prepares to the cut ribbon in a re-dedication of sorts of the South Beach Marina boat launch, which was repaired recently. With grant funding from the State Marine Board along with some Port cash and lots of labor from port workers, the new boat ramp boarding floats will provide boaters with a more safe and secure platform to load and unload their boats.
Total cost of the project was just over $155,000 with the State Marine Board providing over half the cost. The board gathers boater title, registration and other fees statewide for such projects. Port Manager Don Mann said the new boarding floats will provide many years of service for the four lane concrete launch ramps.
