State Legislature to start with more resources for schools – then let the rest of the state budget fall into place
Oregon lawmakers appear to be ready to bite the bullet, if not the bomb, to ensure there are more resources available for Oregon schools, kindergarten to 12th grade. Over the past few years over five thousand teachers have been laid off prompting an explosion in class sizes that parents and educators have complained bitterly about.
Both Republican and Democratic leaders appear poised to do something about it which appears to include state retirement system reform by limiting cost of living increases to PERS retirees and closing tax loopholes on Oregon’s most wealthy.
An uncommonly readable assessment of the situation is found in the Oregonian. Click here.
