It was the 56th annual North Lincoln Fire Rescue Ham Dinner fundraiser Sunday at Taft High School. The fire department took over a big part of the front parking lot and the main entrance to the school. Ham dinner go’ers get an up close and personal view of the fire district’s major equipment. They also learned that the vehicles are one thing – equipping them for every contingency and emergency is quite another.
Things like Jaws of Life, infrared temperature image readers, regular breathing and other life sustaining equipment are supported by the Annual Ham Dinner fundraiser at Taft High.
All day long, firefighters dished out ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, a bun, dessert and something to drink. Many dinner attendees praised the fire fighters of North Lincoln County for their quick action at saving people and property in distress. Whether it’s attacking a house fire or a nasty outgoing tide during a surf rescue, dinner go’ers said they were proud that some of their money was going toward making North Lincoln Fire and Rescue an even more highly skilled department which makes the community safer as a whole.
At the end of the day, fire district officials said their attendance level was about average, just over five hundred hungry Lincoln City residents to feed. As far as net revenue go, their preliminary evidence was something just over five thousand dollars.
As you can see, a good time was had by all. Firefighters put on a show of spirited cooperation as they guided customers to their tables, waited on them, and cleaned up after them. Boy Scouts led the charge at making sure every table was inviting and ready to greet the public and their the fire fighter waiters. Firefighters divided themselves into teams; food preparation, food delivery (both at Taft High and shut-ins throughout the area) waiting and cleaning up tables, and making sure every piece of silverware, plates and cups were properly cleaned and put away so that Taft High cafeteria workers can come back to work on Tuesday effectively take up the challenge of feeding every child in the school.
