The Coast Hills Running Club of Newport will hold their annual Coast Festival 5K on Sunday, February 24. This scenic, fairly flat, fast and fun 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk begins at 9:00 at the Newport Performing Arts Center, winds through Nye Beach, down to the Yaquina Bay Bridge, through Yaquina Bay State Park and back to the PAC. Day of race registration begins at 8:00 at the PAC, with coffee and hot chocolate donated by Dutch Bros. After the race, participants and their friends and families can enjoy delicious hot local chowder, donated by Ocean Bleu at Gino’s, as well as great raffle prizes donated by local businesses. The Coast Festival 5K offers a fun and exciting addition to Newport Seafood and Wine Festival weekend activities in Newport.
Participants can register online at http://coasthillsrunningclub.com/coastfestival.html, or pick up an entry brochure at the Newport Recreation Center, the Newport Chamber of Commerce, and various other businesses around town. A printable entry form is available at http://coasthillsrunningclub.com/coastfestival.html for mail-in registration. Early registration is encouraged, as the much-loved Coast Festival t-shirts with the crab logo are only available for those registering by Feb. 15.
Proceeds from this race help to support the Coast Hills Club Lincoln County High School running scholarship program, elementary and middle school track meets, and helping to purchase running shoes and summer running camps for high school athletes. The Coast Hills Running Club is dedicated to sponsoring and promoting local running events, youth running and the general promotion of running. The primary event sponsors and supporters are Road Runners Club of America, Ocean Bleu at Gino’s, Clif Bar, Dutch Bros., Pepsi Cola, and many generous local merchants.
