Petition begins to qualify “Same Gender Marriage” measure for November ballot
A new Oregon political group has been formed called Oregon United for Marriage to promote a same gender right to marry ballot measure for the November ballot. In a news release Monday morning the group is circulating voter petitions statewide to qualify the measure for the ballot.
Same gender families in Washington State last year won the freedom to marry along with same gender families in Maine and Maryland. In Minnesota, voters blocked an attempt to ban same gender marriage. In his inaugural address, President Obama became the first U.S. President to address lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.
Notably, on Thursday, February 14th, Valentines Day, there will be a statewide voter petition signature blitz across the state. Locally the petition will be available for signing in Lincoln City at The Eventuary, 560 SW Fleet Avenue, just off 101, from 5-7pm.
