Deceased driver identified as Elmer Kibler, 83, of Logsden.
An elderly Logsden man lost his life Tuesday afternoon when he apparently lost control of his Honda Echo on the curve that goes by the cemetery one and a half miles east of Siletz. Deep tracks on the shoulder indicate the man’s vehicle left the pavement right after the curve, began sliding to the right, careened over the side between two large trees and fell down a near-vertical 40 to 50 foot cliff.
A road crew that was working the area noticed the skid marks and looked over the side to see a car upside down in the Siletz River below. They called 9-1-1 and within minutes first responders were on scene. But it took them a while to lower themselves down the cliff and use their tools to get inside the car. Once inside the found the body of an elderly man. They determined that he had been underwater for more than a half hour.
Law enforcement indicated the man was elderly and was a local Logsden Road area resident. His name was withheld pending notification of his wife and family.
