Lester Hall continues to celebrate his 102nd birthday with family and friends at “Outta Gas Pizza” in Yachats
When you turn 100 years young as Lester Hall did while serving as Waldport’s Grand Marshal on the town’s 100th anniversary of it becoming a community, you start to realize what an honor from the universe and the Creator that one should experience so much of life and still be in great health and be so widely loved and respected in both Waldport and Yachats.
Lester went to Waldport High School and spent much of his life ranching and enjoying what he always called the “low stress life” taking care of his animals and enjoying his family. When asked, as he always is, “What’s the secret to a long life?,” Lester always answers quickly, “Keep the stress down. Enjoy life. Work hard and enjoy your loved ones.” Simple advice. So simple it’s likely to be one of the greatest truths most folks will ever be exposed to.
Today, at 102 years of age, Lester still does a lot of the chores around both of of his ranches. He lives at the one up Yachats River Road where he and the community celebrated the birth of a new calf recently.
Lester Lester Hall was born January 28th, 1911 in Agnes, Oregon about half-way between Brookings and Port Orford in the Wild Rogue Wilderness. He moved to Waldport in 1929 and graduated from Waldport High School in 1932 and married his school sweetheart Doris Johnson in 1934. For a time he worked for his brother Claude Hall as a butcher for Hall’s IGA in Waldport. In 1942 Lester and Doris bought a dairy farm on Yachats River Road. Lester and Doris bore 3 children, John, now 75, Shari, 70 and Terry, 60. Doris passed away in 1992. To this day Lester has kept the old mailbox with Doris’s name on it in remembrance of her.
Lester bought a cattle farm in 1947 and another one in 1972 where he lives to this day. Lester is very active and has been operating his cattle ranches for over 70 years.
Lester’s favorite saying is ”I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else than Yachats.”
And Lester, no one in Yachats would want to live anywhere else either, with such a wonderful neighbor and friend as you have proven yourself to be for 102 years. That’s why they’re all looking forward to your 103rd birthday this time next year!
