In what’s been called one of the worst animal abuse cases in the state’s history, law enforcement has raided a warehouse in Brooks, just north of Salem, where they found 149 dogs stuffed in small cages, many without food or water and so emaciated it breaks your heart just looking at them. They were under the “care” of Willamette Valley Animal Rescue, a local animal welfare group. It’s president and one other woman were arrested and lodged in the Marion County Jail. Police are trying to track down at least one other also suspected of running the operation.
