Hopes that Oregon might dodge the worst effects of this winter’s flu have been dashed due to soaring numbers of flu casess throughout western Oregon. Hospital emergency rooms and doctor clinics are reporting a crush of new flu-hammered patients showing up in their waiting rooms. And they’re reporting that it’s nastier than normal. They add that it’s especially contagious, jumping quite adeptly from person to person mainly in schools, restaurants and watering holes. One top health administrator called the virus “unbelievably contagious.”
