The 101/20 signal light bypass…er…NE 2nd Street paving job… is just about ready for its first happy travelers!
For weeks we’ve seen traffic backed up at Highway 20 and 101 while knowing that NE 2nd wasn’t available as Newport’s “Poor Man’s Bypass” to Toledo. Workers had 2nd Street all torn up while they upgraded sewer and water lines AND improved a badly worn road surface.
With all that taken care of, the paving crews were out today laying down fresh new asphalt that will be eminently drivable on Friday. A late Christmas gift from Newport Public Works!!
PWD Director Tim Gross says when they’re done with NE 2nd, they will start paving 3rd and Avery Streets, related to the original need for sewer and water line upgrades and one re-route.
You can’t have too many “work arounds” to backed up traffic lights in this town…
