Photographer Ken Gagne of Yachats was over in the valley today and grabbed this shot of what gas is going for over there at Costco. Gas is actually cheaper in other parts of the country; Tulsa, OK is $2.94 a gallon, Tucson, AZ is $2.96 a gallon, and $2.98 a gallon in Oklahoma City.
But as usual, Lincoln County enjoys the dubious distinction of paying the highest prices in Oregon. At the moment Lincoln County again has the HIGHEST gas prices in the state, even though all the gas comes out of the same pipeline and communities even farther away pay lower prices. But surprisingly, prices are much higher in California and New York.
As it stands Friday night, gas in Gresham and Roseburg is 2.99 a gallon while it varies from 3.30 to 3.53 a gallon in Lincoln County. Imagine how Fred Meyer could give all of us a sizable pay raise by ending all the speculation about them buying a spot in Newport to establish one of their discount gas stations. When they created one in Florence some years back, Florence gas prices dropped like a rock and have remained at or below Fred Meyer’s prices ever since.
And so Lincoln County waits, and continues to pay higher gas prices…
