Candidate’s Message to the community – Jeff Bertuleit, for Mayor of Newport

Jeff Bertuleit

Jeff Bertuleit
Running for Mayor

To the citizens of Newport:

I am honored to be your representative on the Newport City Council the past eight years. I believe Newport is destined to be a leader of the Oregon Coast. I have advocated for and accomplished many worthwhile projects. I want to continue the current progress and solve the challenges we face in the future as Mayor of Newport.

I have a long history of being involved with neighborhood committees and business districts. I have campaigned for plans and solutions to areas as: Nye Beach, The Bayfront, South Beach, Highway 101, and Downtown. Improvements to these areas have enhanced the livability and encouraged business. There are many projects yet to be accomplished and I have the background, drive, and knowledge to get things done.

The city has completed a recent Economic Study that reaffirms that certain core areas be focused on. I will be sure top priority and time lines to accomplish the recommendations will be my major focus as Mayor. Newport has wonderful physical elements and key business districts. I believe more work needs to be accomplished to integrate these areas. We have industrial properties that need to developed and marketed. We have more potential growth in the fishing and marine science industries. I have the contacts and background knowledge to foster these opportunities.

The city is on course to rebuild financial security and rebuild old infrastructure. I have always been an advocate to repair and replace infrastructure. I stressed the need to smoke test and find the sources of pollution on our beaches. I stressed the need to stop flooding in Nye Beach, sewer inflow at the Bayfront, overflow at Agate Beach, and to have a reliable water treatment plant. As Mayor I will keep infrastructure as a top priority.

Looking forward we still have challenges and opportunities. We need to foster the development of more customers to our businesses, create more reasons to stay overnight year around, and continue fiscal responsibility to make sure our taxes and fees are competitive. We need to develop responsible growth to help build the funding base for our expenses, underground utility lines along Highway 101, and entice job and affordable housing opportunities. The aforementioned are a few reasons I want to continue on council as Mayor.

I ask for your vote and it will be my honor and privilege to serve as Mayor of Newport.

Thank you,
Jeff Bertuleit
