Newport Public Library launches automated phone notifications
From Library Director Ted Smith
Newport Public Library patrons may notice a new voice on their voicemail in the coming weeks: a pleasant recorded message, informing them that a requested book has arrived or that items are overdue. Newport joins Tillamook County Library and Driftwood Public Library in offering this service, a feature of the new library system software launched earlier this year. It’s all part of the changeover to Oceanbooks Library Consortium.
Most library patrons have become accustomed to receiving their hold pick-up notices and overdue notices via email, and these individuals will continue to receive email notices as before. There are still patrons who do not have email, and notifying these patrons has historically meant either a phone call from a volunteer, or a mailed notice. The automated notice will help minimize the amount of time our volunteers spend calling patrons each week, allowing them more time for other duties.
