Brad Taylor of Oregon Coast Productions hopped in his car and traveled 10 hours to Reno last week to see how a Celtic Festival put on there compared to what we’ve seen for a couple of years here in Newport. The multi-day event at Reno’s south area Bartley Ranch was a decidedly outdoor-in-the-sun event that seemed colorful enough. However, it was more of a Celtic music event. They did not have the competitive celtic outdoor physical competition as in Newport. Brad’s edited video was shown to Newport Celtic Festival organizer Belinda Goody and she offered these comments on what she saw.
I looked them over. Very nice (and sunny)! I thought their format was interesting and enjoyed the fact that these cities had their own pipe bands (which is one of our fundraising goals – for our County to have a pipe band). My gut reaction is that it seemed a bit quiet and I’d be interested to know how many attended and who sponsors the event.
I know some of our vendors travel to Reno as well. I’ll share this around our group and see if they have any more feedback for you.
