The all-new Waldport High School, the Sam Case Primary School classrooms/gym addition, and the Toledo Jr/Sr High School classrooms/commons wing are all taking shape, inside and out. The move-in date for Sam Case and Toledo is late December, while the new Waldport High is still on target for occupancy in August 2013.
The Taft Elementary School classroom wing is dried in, so work can really kick into gear inside the new classrooms, with an anticipated completion date of late December.
The teen parent classroom and School-Based Health Center, on the west end of Newport Prep Academy, will be ready for occupancy in a week, then the two portable buildings can be hauled away.
The extensive science classroom remodel at Newport High School is coming together nicely and should be ready for teachers and students in early November.
Sod is green and growing at the new Oceanlake Elementary School play field, the former site of portable classrooms over the past few decades.
There was some rain early in the school year, which had some students and staff at Taft 7-12 High School wondering about the progress of the new roof. Rich Belloni, director of Support Services, reports that the roof did leak in areas because the job was not yet completed. Not to worry… the company performing the job, Garland Industries of Cleveland, Ohio, was thoroughly researched before being hired; they have been very responsive to all calls; they are paying for clean-up time and any damage from leaks; and there is a performance bond in place. So… the outlook is GREAT for dry halls and classrooms on any future rainy days at Taft High. You can be sure that Rich and his staff will be keeping a close eye on the school during this coming rainy season!
