4:58pm OSP Update: The 28 year old driver was from Idaho. The truck was last seen driving at about thirty miles an hour, then traveled off the right shoulder, hit an embankment, then rolled over onto its left side.
The driver of a southbound semi on Highway 101 south of Seal Rock was killed Thursday morning when, for an unknown reason, his semi drifted off the right shoulder near Marsh Road and rolled onto its side. The driver was pinned in the cab.
A paramedic was on scene very quickly and initially reported that the driver was conscious and breathing. Then a short while later the paramedic reported he detected no pulse. The driver was declared dead at the scene. A Newport area mortuary responded to remove the body. No name has yet been released.
Traffic was backed up on Highway 101 for a long ways in both directions. At around 1pm traffic was being allowed through using the northbound lane, alternating with flaggers.
Highway 101 was returned to normal traffic flow after the truck was removed at round 4pm.
