North Lincoln County Fire/Rescue is closing in on a jet skier in the water 400 yards off the Salishan Spit. Jet ski is stalled…stalled in the breakers off the spit.
The victim and the two rescuing jet skiers are in the water…standing on a sand bar. But they are also reported to being hit pretty hard by waves breaking over the bar. Coast Guard motor lifeboat and helicopter are enroute.
The victim is out of the water and being evaluated by medical personnel. The two rescuers are separated from their jet skis. Still out there. Coast Guard is still enroute.
All personnel accounted for and are safe. Coast Guard notified. One jet ski left in the surf that belongs to the victim. Depoe Bay Fire/Rescue likely the ones to retrieve it. The shore current is pushing it south and may be beached on the spit. Coast Guard is cancelled.
Jet ski appears to be caught in a rip current, headed away from shore. Uncertain where it’ll end up.
Low Tide. Fire/Rescue personnel going back out to retrieve the victim’s jet ski. Victim is being treated at North Lincoln County Hospital, possibly for hypothermia since he was in the water for so long.
