From Toledo Police Department
Toledo Police Dispatch received a report Wednesday morning of a two vehicle head-on crash on East Slope Road in Toledo. Police say the crash occurred when, according to both drivers and a witness, the driver of the first vehicle, Mr. Timothy Axsom, lost control of his pickup truck and collided head on with an Interstate Distribution Co. semi driven by Mr. Ross on East Slope SE between Fir St. SE and 10th SE.
Mr. Axsom told the officer that he might have been going fast, he was not sure of his speed. He said his truck “felt like it was getting squirrely.” Mr. Axsom was transported to PCH for examination and then later life flighted from PCH.
Mr. Leslie Ross, the driver of the Interstate Distribution semi, told the officer he was outbound and had just turned onto East Slope Rd. from Butler Bridge Rd when he saw a pickup truck coming around the curve fast. He said the pickup took up almost his entire lane pulling so far left to almost be on the fog line. Mr. Ross said the driver of the pickup then over corrected and swerved back into its own lane to its fog line, then over corrected again back into Mr. Ross’s lane of travel. The pickup then collided head on with the semi. Mr. Ross said that at the moment of the crash he was slowing to a stop and had pointed his truck to his fog line. Mr. Ross said he was not injured. Both vehicles were towed from the crash site.
