A month of imagining peace…

Members of ICPJ meet with Lincoln County Commissioners Wednesday

Newport’s Interfaith Community for Peace and Justice are holding a number of events during September to dare to suggest that peace is a better way to resolve differences than war, or words of war. Issues of peace, they say, also include Health Justice, Homelessness, Gender Equality, Domestic Violence, Gay and Lesbian Concerns, Native American Justice Issues, and Immigration and Latino Concerns.

Members of the Community told the county Board of Commissioners that the events for peace around the town are held to help people grapple with the violence in the world and re-direct our emotional, intellectual and spiritual energies toward honor and respect for all peoples, regardless of their faith or world view. Right down to dealing with school yard bullies.

Here is a schedule of their events over the next two weeks:

Friday, Sept. 14, 7pm: Universal Peace Dances at South Beach Community Center.

Saturday, Sept. 15, 2-4:30pm, Peacemaking Workshop, Atonement Lutheran Church, 2315, No. Coast Hwy

Sunday, Sept. 16, Churches observe International Day of Peace

Tuesday, Sept. 18, 6pm, Drumming for Peace, Don Davis Park Gazebo, Nye Beach

Friday, Sept. 21 International Day of peace
11am-3pm Sacred Heart Chapel Labyrinth
9am-5pm, Pacific Communities Hospital, Garden Labyrinth

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2pm, Community Peace Celebration, Newport First Presbyterian Church

Thursday, Sept. 27, 7-8:30pm, Justice Side of Peace Forum, Central Lincoln PUD Public Room
