Newport’s Interfaith Community for Peace and Justice are holding a number of events during September to dare to suggest that peace is a better way to resolve differences than war, or words of war. Issues of peace, they say, also include Health Justice, Homelessness, Gender Equality, Domestic Violence, Gay and Lesbian Concerns, Native American Justice Issues, and Immigration and Latino Concerns.
Members of the Community told the county Board of Commissioners that the events for peace around the town are held to help people grapple with the violence in the world and re-direct our emotional, intellectual and spiritual energies toward honor and respect for all peoples, regardless of their faith or world view. Right down to dealing with school yard bullies.
