A report that the F/V Cap Elza was sinking at Port Dock 7 Monday night turned out to be a bit of an overstatement. The captain of the vessel said although to the naked eye it appeared that the vessel was listing to port, it was leaning from a lot of water in their fish holds. He said his crew deliberately flooded them with water to melt a lot of surplus ice they still had on board. Consequently, when somebody walked by and saw the vessel hard to port he reported it as a sinking ship to 9-1-1 which dispatched police and the Coast Guard.
The captain said they ran the bilge pumps and soon had the vessel straight up in the water and their fish tanks ready for another run to the sea.
