Getting vital, even life saving services to the homeless in Lincoln County, kicks off during the first week of October. It’s Newport Homeless Connect going on October 5th and will run most of the day. Homeless men, women and children will receive medical care in terms of general health checkups and dental work. They’ll also be fed a nutritious breakfast and lunch and be give additional assistance with getting photo ID, voting registration, help with veterans issues, medical care and other important support services.
As usual, the program is run mostly by volunteers and they need plenty of those. But also they need donations of clothing, personal hygiene products and clean sleeping bags. Among the clothing most needed are new socks and new underwear. Those are in great need.
If you’d like to donate a little something for this year’s Newport Homeless Connect project, drop off your donations at U.S. Bank on East Olive (Highway 20) or at Western States Insurance at Highway 101 @ 8th, during regular business hours.
Newport Homeless Connect be held October 5th, at the Church of the Nazarene, on NW 12th just west of Highway 101.
