OSP say that a semi with a fully loaded trailer, was following too close to a Volkswagen bug Tuesday morning. As both vehicles rounded a curve near Eddyville, the Volkswagen slowed and turned into a driveway. Police say the truck was following too close and could not slow down fast enough to avoid hitting the rear of the VW. Both the VW driver and her young child in the back seat were injured, but not seriously. Both were transported to PCH in Newport where they were evaluated and later released.
Driver of the truck was cited for following too close.
Report of a Semi truck that has rear-ended a VW Beetle in Eddyville, at 18021 Highway 20. Driver complaining of neck pain. Child in the back seat. Unknown if injured.
Driver unable to move. Status on child in the back seat still undetermined.
Many attempts to secure specific information on the crash from authorities haven’t been successful. But we did learn through unofficial channels that both mother and baby were transported to PCH in Newport. And a symbolic piece of good news is that neither were helicoptered to trauma centers in Corvallis or Portland. So it can be deduced that neither suffered life threatening injuries. A full report is expected from Oregon State Police tomorrow.
