As you can see from the graph, the Newport Food Pantry is in dire need of fresh vegetables and canned means, especially tuna. Here’s Pantry Manager Katherine Myers’ latest report:
Over half of the students who live in Newport qualify for free or reduced lunches. These economically challenged families struggle to provide enough nutritious food for their children during breaks from school. Studies have shown that students who receive healthy foods to take home on weekends return better prepared to learn and participate. So, when Jane Delle and Jessica Steenkolk, the two hard-working women who started Operation Snackpacks in Newport, decided to take a well-earned rest, the Newport Food Pantry stepped up to continue this vital program. For that we will focus on the protein-rich foods chldren need such as tuna and peanut butter. Any help to get us started with this important mission will be greatly appreciated. Food donations can be dropped off here at the pantry Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM, and Saturday morning until noon. If the pantry location and hours aren’t convenient for you, many wonderful organizations and businesses keep our food collection containers on site. With Much Appreciation,
