There will be a YAA spotlight show featuring the art of Cynthia Jacobi and Jackie Treat from September 1 through September 14th. The show will be open from 10 am to 5 pm at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport.
“I believe that my art represents my emotional expression beyond words. In my work, I relate a story or form of poem, using color, composition, and suggestion.”
Watercolor, acrylics and mixed media are used in Cynthia’s art making. ” I especially enjoy plein air painting on our Oregon coast where the challenge of weather elements add the dimension of immediacy. Some of my latest work has been mixed media in lime clay on wood with multi layered acrylic stains, collage, photo transfer, and wax. Animals, fish, and nature imprinting mingle on my surfaces. I often incorporate design elements from Chinese pictographs.”
For the current YAA show, one of her featured works is “View of YAA Building 2000” in acrylic. This painting was developed from a photo taken from the second floor of the Visual Arts Center. Cynthia Jacobi is a member of Yaquina Arts Association, and of For ArtSake Gallery, an artist’s co-op in Nye Beach.
She says, “I cannot remember ever not being interested in art. As a child I was one of the lucky ones picked for special art projects & opportunities for extra learning experiences. Over the years I have enjoyed many forms of art. I worked on ceramics & porcelain dolls & have taken many art workshops. I painted mostly in oils for many years. I joined YAA in 2006 & began the colored pencil class that Betty Sparks was teaching on Wednesdays. I thought I would do colored pencil a few weeks & move on. I haven’t put colored pencils down since & I love them. I am a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America & the CPSA DC201 of Oregon & have had my work in the state CPSA show for the last several years. Recently I have been painting with oils again also.”
Again, Yaquina Art Association spotlight show featuring the art of Cynthia Jacobi and Jackie Treat from Sepember 1st through the 14th, 10am – 5pm at the YAA Gallery, at 789 NW Beach Drive, Newport (end of the Nye Beach turnaround, on the beach).
