A three car smash-up on Highway 101 and NE 60th Saturday night sent a young lady to the hospital after the car she was driving was hit hard from behind.
Witnesses say that a Toyota sedan was sitting in the center turn lane at 101 and NE 60th with it’s left flasher on when for some reason a man driving a Mini-Cooper roared up from behind and hit it hard. The impact catapulted the Toyota forward and into the northbound travel lane. A woman driving a PT Cruiser said she saw the accident happen so fast that she didn’t have time to react and suddenly the Toyota was right in front of her. She said she slammed on her brakes but she still hit the Toyota which then rolled down into a deep drainage basin about six feet below the highway grade.
The young lady driving the Toyota was transported to PCH with what were believed to be minor injuries. Three other young ladies with her in the car were not transported and appeared to be fine. The Cooper driver and his dog were not injured, nor was the driver of the PT Cruiser. Seat belts all around.
Police say they’re still confirming exactly what happened.
Traffic was backed up for about 45 minutes. It was supposed to be back to normal by around 9:15pm.
