Here is the video version of the partial recovery of the remains of the F/V Chevelle that went aground against the north jetty at the entrance to Yaquina Bay early last March. No one was hurt in the loss of the vessel which broke apart on the rocks and eventually sank to the bottom of the 45′ channel. The bridge-to-bow portion of the vessel was lifted by air bags today and towed to a spot next to Newport’s International Terminal. Tomorrow a large crane will lift the remains onto the beach where it will be processed and readied for transport for a scrap yard in Portland. The other half of the craft is still lying on the bottom, possibly seaward of where the bridge was found. Further sonar soundings will have to be used before the back half of the vessel can be located and then recovered.
