A number of erstwhile marine adventurers launched themselves onto the waters of the Yaquina River in Toledo Saturday as part of the town’s annual Wooden Boat Show. These happy paddlers placed their very lives in the hands of those who employ the questionable belief that cardboard actually floats, or will float six feet seaward of any dock. Newport Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lorna Davis made good on her promise to compete in the race despite the fact that her craft began taking on water almost from the moment it was placed in the river. But she pulled it off. And as you’ll see in the video, she didn’t do half-bad!
Then off they went as was captured on video by Brad Taylor of Oregon Coast Productions.
