The effort to finally finish the Yaquina Bay Bridge at the north end is building momentum. Sidewalks that many say should have been installed back when the bridge was being built in the 1930s, are now being built 76 years later. They should be finished within weeks, according to Newport Public Works Director Tim Gross. Gross not only envisioned the sidewalks but also the realignment of the confusing traffic intersection on the west side of the bridge. Instead of the current peculiar street and stop sign arrangement, Gross is going to make the intersection a simple, traditional “T” intersection.
