Joseph Marsala sentenced to 23 years prison in bludgeoning death of Darrin Dow in Lincoln City, June 2011
Joseph Anthony Marsala has been sent to prison for 23 years after pleading guilty to aggravated murder, manslaughter, attempted robbery and attempted assault.
Information gathered by authorities indicated that Marsala and another teen male met the victim, Darrin Dow, in a Portland night club. After a time they all drove in Dow’s car to his vacation home in Lincoln City. Police say it was there that Marsala assaulted Dow with a gardening tool, robbed him, stole his Cadillac Escalade and headed back to Portland. Marsala was apprehended in Portland and returned to Lincoln County to face murder charges.
Lincoln County District Attorney Rob Bovett said the case was very complicated, requiring major investigative assistance from the Lincoln County Major Crimes Unit, Oregon State Crime Lab, the DA’s office volunteer investigator Robert Winkler and the Oregon Attorney General’s office.
