A rear-end collision sent a local man to the hospital and tied up traffic for at least a couple of miles between Newport’s 10th street all the way to the Yaquina Lighthouse traffic signal.
Witnesses say the driver of the pick up was stopped in a traffic back-up from the Lighthouse Drive traffic signal. They said a brown sedan came up from behind too fast to stop in time and slammed into the back of the pickup. The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to PCH where he got a thorough checking out.
Traffic came to a halt in both directions for a short time, then resumed in alternating directions. The wreck was finally cleared and so did the traffic.
No word on citations, although those who hit from behind are almost always issued a citation for following to close or for inattentive driving.
