Follow the yellow brick road…follow the yellow brick road, follow, follow, follow, follow…follow the yellow brick road!
All they could say was, “Thank God it was latex paint.” Latex is non-toxic and is water soluable.
That’s at least some consolation for a Benton County road painting crew who were under contract Wednesday morning to paint the center stripes on Collins Street, about a half mile up from Highway 101.
Public Works Director Jim Buisman said the crews were getting ready to paint when a hose under the compressor blew a hole and a sizeable quantity of paint hit the ground and proceeded to definitely color outside the lines.
Buisman said the latex nature of the paint makes it much less of an environmental problem. Crews were busy cleaning up the mess, ordering a new hose, and getting back to work. Buisman says such painting machines are very expensive and so Benton County acts as a regular contractor for Lincoln County (among others) for road striping work.
