Depoe Bay Fire Rescue was called to the scene of a large house fire at 6710 Glen Avenue Sunday afternoon in Gleneden Beach. Fire units pulled up to find the house was in flames with some of those flames finally venting to the outside. No one was home at the time.
Fire fighters put the flames out rather quickly but because the fire had been burning at a low level for so long, smoke damage was extensive throughout the home. There was also extensive fire damage to the upstairs area.
Depoe Bay Fire Chief Josh Williams noted another burned over area in front of the house that a neighbor said had erupted Saturday, right at the end of the home’s drive. She said she helped put that fire out.
Chief Williams ordered the earlier fire area cordoned off and crime tape placed around the entirety of the home and then summoned expert fire investigators to examine the scene with great detail. He didn’t not elaborate other than to say the investigation is far from over.
Neighbors say the owner lives in Portland and that his daughter has lived in it off and on for a while. Neighbors say they didn’t believe the home is a vacation rental.
