A vehicle reported stolen from Lincoln City was spotted near Newport by law enforcement headed northbound on Highway 101 early Friday evening. Authorities gave chase and when the vehicle failed to yield to officers, Oregon State Police put out road spikes near Beverly Beach. The lady driver drove over them, losing both right side tires. Driver Kristina Escalderon of Lincoln City was immediately taken into custody and put in the back of an OSP cruiser. Her puppy pit bull was retrieved from the back seat of the vehicle and transported to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter under the care of Newport Police Sergeant Tom Simpson.
Escalderon was transported to the Lincoln County Jail and booked on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and theft. Her bail was set at $100,000.
