Story from Sgt. Bob Ruark, TPD
On July 23rd, at about 1045pm, the Toledo Police Department received a report of a runaway 15 year old juvenile female from Siletz. Family of the juvenile advised that the runaway was possibly enroute to Los Angeles California with an adult Hispanic male from the Los Angeles area
The suspect vehicle description as well as a description of both the adult and juvenile was sent out to the surrounding counties and the I-5 corridor. Further investigation revealed that the male had met the juvenile on Facebook and convinced her to run away to Los Angeles with him.
The male, identified as Luis Flores, had driven from Los Angeles and met with the 15 year old in Siletz. The two left Siletz at around 10:20pm and the juvenile left behind a note telling her family not to worry that she was heading to Los Angeles and would not be gone long.
Thanks to the search efforts of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Corvallis Police Department, Eugene Police Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police, the juvenile was located and Flores was arrested.
Oregon State Police Trooper Nathan House located the vehicle at the I-5 southbound onramp from Hwy 34 at about 12:40am on July 24th, and Luis Flores was arrested at the scene. The 15 year old runaway was found safe and was released to family.
Flores was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of custodial interference and online sexual corruption of a child. Flores is being held without bail and is expected to be eventually taken into custody by immigration authorities because he is believed to be an illegal immigrant.
