Lincoln City Ward One City Councilor Alex Ward: “I’m too busy with my growing business to stay on the council.”
Lincoln City Ward One City Councilor Alex Ward announced to the city council Monday night that he will not seek to hold on to his seat on the council. Ward told the council that he has a problem that prevents him from seeking a full term in his own right, but that the problem is a “good” one. He said that his business is growing so fast that he needs to devote full time to it, and then some. He said he’s enjoyed his time on the council and that he will miss it, but his business and personal life must come first.
Ward said he was announcing his leaving the council to give those who have considered public service, and who live in Ward One (north Lincoln City), a chance to serve on the council. Ward is serving out the remainder of another city councilor’s term who also resigned early, Rick Brissette. The term ends December 31st of this year.
Two other city councilors have announced that they will seek re-election, Ward 3 Councilor Roger Sprague and Ward 2 Councilor Chester Noreikis. Sprague has already circulated and turned in his nomination petition, signed by at least 25 registered voters, thereby placing his name on the November ballot. Noreikis has picked up a petition to circulate to garner his own 25 voter signatures to also place his name on the ballot.
Deadline to turn in nomination petitions and other candidacy paperwork to the Lincoln City Clerk Recorder’s Office is Tuesday, August 21st, 5pm.
