A NASCAR Sprint Cup Car rocket was parked outside Fastenal Parts on Harney Street Friday, to the ooo’s and awww’s of adoring race car fans who have watched this vehicle compete in various Sprint Car classics around the country.
The Roush Fenway Racing Team drives this and other Sprint Cars sponsored by Fastenal, Best Buy, Subway and AFLAC.
The Fastenal No. 99 is dedicated to touring the country at the moment but has seen its share of tracks from one end of the USA to the other, tearing up the asphalt at speeds of 200+ mph. Under the hood of this Ford Fusion is a very “souped up” (can we still use that term these days?) 358 cubic inch engine producing 900 horsepower.
From here the car is traveling to another Fastenal Parts store in Klamath Falls, and from there it will be touring California during the month of August.
Makes you wonder what the electric car industry is thinking about sprint racing. The lightning quick wheel/tire changes would be about the same, but a just-as-quick battery tray swap-out may be too frequent for a while to make electricity a competitive fuel. But when they get that technology worked out, as they surely will, look out!
And Fastenal will likely have its good company name on the side of those electric rockets as well.
