Two minimum-custody inmates were injured Monday afternoon, one seriously, while working on an outside work crew in the Tillamook State Forest. One inmate was transported by Life Flight to a Portland-area hospital. His family has been notified. The other has been transported to Tillamook County Hosptial for treatment and will return to the institution later today.
The inmates are part of a South Fork Forest Camp (SFFC) work crew, performing work in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Forestry. While clearing vegetation on a hillside, the two inmates fell down a steep slope, causing injuries to both.
SFFC houses nearly 200 inmates who are within four years of release. It is a minimum-security work camp located approximately 28 miles east of Tillamook, just off the Wilson River Highway.
