Carol Leigh and her husband took a 4th of July walk on the beach just south of Seal Rock this morning and were aghast at the thoughtlessness of those who light off fireworks, and then leave their mess behind on the beach.
Leigh said that debris from the Japanese Tsunami is one thing, but to foul up our beaches in the name of celebrating our country’s independence is not acceptable. Carol said she and her husband gathered up what trash they could (off Curtis Street, just south of Seal Rock) and left it next to an overflowing trash can in the parking area.
Sounds like local communities need to form “Post 4th of July/labor Day/Memorial Day Weekend(s)” volunteer trash removal parties. Carol’s pictures show a clear and present need.
P.S. Just got a note from Doug Holbrook who wants to remind everyone that it is ILLEGAL to bring fireworks onto Oregon Beaches. So there ya have it.
