Thompson Sanitation rates to rise 2%
Saying that they have tried to keep costs down and innovation up, Thompson Sanitation went before the Newport City Council Monday night and convinced the council that they need a small rate increase. Two percent.
Thompson Sanitation’s Rob Thompson said, “While the economy still sputters and fuel costs increase, we are in a good position because of large jobs in our area, and consistent application of the municipal code to keep our rates stable. The commodities market continues to be healthy, but that can change suddenly. We recommend a 2% increase consistent with a CPI
increase. This is expressly allowed for in the Rate Report methodology, and hedges against larger increases in future years. I expect the council will agree that small and frequent increases are more desirable than large unexpected increases.
And with that council gave Thompson a rate boost of 2% for the coming year.
