Gilbert Hearn, who was just days away from converting his 33 foot fishing boat “Iniquity” into a commercial fishing vessel learned this weekend that his boat had sunk to the bottom of the South Beach Marina at it’s slip on Dock D.
Hearn quickly spread oil absorption pads on the surface above the sunken craft. He said he has no idea why it sank. He said he was working with his insurance company and planning to have the boat raised back up.
Hearn says his boat has been a great little craft that has fished for salmon, tuna and other sea going delicacies and hopes it can continue to do so in the future, depending on the cost of re-raising and repairs.
Hearn is a principal in Brothers Chimney Service.
