Toledo Summer Festival 5k
“Larry Johnson Memorial Fun Run and Walk”
Toledo, Oregon –There’s no need for eager attendees at the Toledo Summer Festival to worry about the extra elephant ear or snow cone they enjoy at this year’s event, as there will be an opportunity to work off the calories before they are even consumed. This week the Summer Festival announced the fourth annual 5k Fun Run and Walk, which takes place on Saturday, July 28 at 9:00 am, the main day of festivities.
The race route starts and ends at Memorial Field, adjacent to Les Schwab Tire Center, the Title Sponsor of this year’s run. The course provides a nice tour of Toledo, encompasing much of the the Sharon Branstiter Memorial Drive, and traveling past the Swimming Pool, Library, and Fire Hall before culminating in a trip down Toledo’s historic Main Street and returning to the field.
Race organizers said they are very focused on making the run and walk as enjoyable as possible for participants, and there will be plenty of water, watermellon, and comrauderie for runners and walkers. Registration is $20 per participant, and includes an official race t-shirt. All of the proceeds benefit the Toledo High School Track and Field Team.
In addition to Les Schwab, the event is also being sponsored by Oregon Coast Bank, Dahl Disposal, and Dave Breon Logging. The race is followed later in the day by the Summer Festival’s iconic parade, logging show, and the much-celebrated fireworks display Saturday evening.
Interested runners and walkers can register for the event by visiting the Summer Festival webpage at www.toledosummerfestival.com or by sending a check for $20 to the Toledo Summer Festival 5k, PO Box 357, Toledo, OR 97391. Please remember to include the participants’ names and t-shirt sizes. Additional questions can be directed to email@example.com.
This year’s Summer Festival 5k is being held in memory of Larry Johnson, a long-time community member and supporter of the track team, who passed away last year.
