As Albert Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result”. An editorial in the Oregonian this past Sunday by a gentleman named Samuelson(?) addressed clearly that America’s economics have changed. Yet we continue to act as if this is temporary when in fact it is not. Ergo, please read the attached article on the bankruptcy of the City of Stockton California.
I suggest it is time to work toward a model of local government that addresses this dire need to change. A number of years ago, I had the opportunity to live in several towns within Fairfax County Virginia. Each retained its own identity. However all otherwise duplicated services were centralized. Elected and PAID representatives from each sat on a County Governing Board. It is past time for change but it is never too late to reinvent to fit the present and future. The adage of those who do not like change; “It will never happen here” will not protect our communities going forward.
