A heckuva way to return stolen property…

OSU, Kerr Bldg. OSP photos

From Oregon State Police
Approximately $75,000 worth of stolen property was found Wednesday morning after Oregon State Police (OSP) Explosives Unit technicians responded to a reported suspicious container found in a parking lot on the Oregon State University (OSU) campus.

According to OSP Sergeant Vonn Schleicher, Wednesday morning at approximately 5:47 a.m. an OSU employee alerted OSP and the OSU Department of Public Safety of a suspicious container in the parking lot south of the Kerr Administration building. Responding troopers couldn’t determine who the owner was so the area was cordoned off and the OSP Explosives Unit requested to respond to examine the container, described as a large cooler, and its contents.

Upon arrival, 15th Street was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Jefferson Street and Washington Street for about one hour. Explosive technicians used a robot to examiner the container and determined it was not hazardous or explosive. The area was re-opened at 8:07 a.m.

Inside the container they found property confirmed stolen May 19 from an OSU van that was broken into and reported to Corvallis Police Department. The stolen equipment from the OSU College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences included marine data collection device and cable.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Corvallis Police Department and Corvallis Fire Department.
