An Oregon State Police trooper was pursuing a white SUV southbound on 101 from Cape Foulweather at around 10:25 Saturday night trying to get it to pull over for weaving widely on the road. However, the driver refused to pull over. Troopers say he sped up to 70 mph and began hugging the right shoulder. The vehicle finally left the highway in the Beverly Beach area, sliding into some trees on the west side of the highway.
State troopers ordered the man out of the car. He got out of his vehicle and under orders from troopers backed away from his vehicle with his hands up, at times clasping the back of his head. He was immediately taken into custody.
Troopers identified the man as Alexander Lavell, 38, of Kirkland, Washington. He was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of drunk driving, reckless driving and trying to elude law enforcement.
