Story from Newport Food Pantry
Rapidly rising gas prices are hitting families hard. People who come to the pantry tell us that it’s a struggle to purchase enough fuel to get to and from work. When small budgets get stretched to that point, other things have to be eliminated. For many, that means buying less food. Fresh vegetables become a luxury. Fortunately, we are beginning to get some donated to the pantry. They are flying off the shelves as fast as they come in. Because they pack such a high nutritional punch, we love to stock as many as we possibly can. That’s why we are encouraging home gardeners to plant those extra rows for the hungry. Families with children especially depend on produce from the pantry to put nutritious meals on the table.
Once again, we would like to thank the Newport community for their generosity during the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. Both the quantity and quality of the food we received was amazing. It will go a long way to help feed our hungry neighbors and friends.
